A quarter century is a long time in any relationship, especially in the ever-shifting world of broadcast technology.
The world of audiovisual technology has changed dramatically over the last 25 years. The Greensboro Television Network (GTN) has adapted every step of the way with ClarkPowell by its side.
From the analog days to today’s fully digital workflows, ClarkPowell has been the City of Greensboro’s trusted AV partner. We have helped GTN evolve through leadership changes and rapid advances in broadcast technology. Three station managers later, with Carlos Castellanos now at the helm, ClarkPowell recently completed a transformative three-phase upgrade that future-proofed the station and simplified operations for the team.
The Project at a Glance This three-part upgrade gave GTN a complete digital refresh of their master control and playback systems, improving reliability, flexibility, and efficiency:
Phase 1: Routing Revolution We untangled the station’s hybrid analog/digital routing. After a thorough assessment of signal paths, we installed a new 40x40 video router, embedded analog audio, converted legacy video, and consolidated video and audio paths. The result is a streamlined, flexible, and cleaner routing system that eliminates unnecessary sources and destinations.
Phase 2: Switcher Supercharge We swapped out their aging video production switcher for a Broadcast Pix unit with familiar controls but way more power.
Phase 3: Playback, Upgraded Finally, we replaced the existing older video servers with a modern Cablecast video server, giving them expanded scheduling features and built-in closed caption embedding. More flexibility and a future-ready platform for live playback to multiple cable providers, plus streaming and on-demand possibilities.
The Impact The Greensboro Television Network now proudly boasts a brand-new, fully digital master control and playback setup, ready for the next chapter in government broadcasting.
For 25 years, ClarkPowell has helped GTN do what government TV does best: inform, engage, and connect with the community, only now with simpler, faster, and smarter workflows. Because when the world changes, your technology should, too.
"Greensboro Television Network is a PEG station for the City of Greensboro. We've been partners with ClarkPowell for over 20 years.
They've installed a lot of different equipment for us, including a broadcast PIC system, which we use for live meetings.
We recently upgraded to Cablecast for our broadcast, and they recently did an entire router installation, helped us clean out old legacy equipment, which brought us into the 21st century.
Warren Baker of ClarkPowell knows our station probably better than we do at this point. The customer service is top-notch and very responsive.
If you ever need an AV integrator in the future, I highly recommend ClarkPowell."
