ClarkPowell recently worked with Mitchell Community College on two very different environments. The installation included a new executive boardroom inside a historic building and a newly renovated Dental Suite designed to support classroom instruction, hands-on learning, and digital communication.
Designing AV for a Historic Boardroom
The new boardroom presented an unusual design challenge. Located within a historic building, the room features large windows, multiple doors, and a layout that limited the placement of a traditional central display.
ClarkPowell approached the project as a design-build partner, working closely with the GC, architect, and the college IT team early in the process. This collaboration ensured that power and data conduits were positioned correctly to support the AV system design while maintaining the architectural character of the space. Because of the room configuration, the two 75-inch ViewSonic displays could not be centered traditionally. ClarkPowell worked with the college to determine the best placement for visibility, functionality, and architectural aesthetics.
The large windows also introduce a significant amount of ambient light. High-brightness, anti-glare ViewSonic displays were selected to maintain a clear image throughout the room regardless of changing daylight conditions.

A Teams Room Built for College Leadership
The boardroom is frequently used by Mitchell Community College leadership for remote and hybrid meetings. The college selected Microsoft Teams and Yealink to provide a familiar, easy-to-operate meeting experience.
The Windows-based Yealink Microsoft Teams Room operates from a dedicated PC and incorporates two cameras, giving participants multiple camera views during meetings. Yealink AV technology manages the camera system and provides a streamlined experience within the Microsoft Teams environment.
The goal was to enable the leadership team to walk into the room, start a Teams meeting, and collaborate without having to think about the underlying technology.
ClarkPowell integrated a Shure MXCW wireless discussion system for table audio. Each conference unit incorporates its own microphone and speaker, providing clear, localized audio around the boardroom table. The system also includes voting functionality, giving the college additional capabilities for formal board discussions and decision-making. The finished room balances modern collaboration technology with the architectural requirements of a historic space.

Supporting Hands-On Learning in the New Dental Suite
ClarkPowell also provided audiovisual systems for Mitchell Community College’s newly renovated Dental Suite. The project included a new classroom equipped with the college’s standardized instructional technology. An instructor podium provides access to a PC and laptop connections, while an Extron control system and video switching allow instructors to easily manage room sources.
A Sony projector displays content on a 137-inch motorized Da-Lite projection screen. Mitchell Community College has standardized on Sony projectors, allowing the college to maintain a consistent technology platform across its classrooms.
A high-brightness ViewSonic display in the Dental Suite waiting area also supports digital signage and college communications.

Bringing Dental Demonstrations Closer to Every Student
The Dental Lab required a more customized approach. Rather than projecting onto a traditional screen, the instructor wanted the ability to display instructional material directly onto a whiteboard so content could be annotated during class. ClarkPowell designed the system around that teaching style, incorporating a Sony projector and video switching system.
The same instructional content is distributed to 12 ViewSonic monitors located at student workstations throughout the lab. This allows students to see detailed dental procedures and instructional material close up without relying solely on the projected image at the front of the room.

Communication That Makes Design Build Work
A key part of both projects was the close communication between ClarkPowell and Mitchell Community College’s IT team. From coordinating infrastructure with the general contractor and architect in the historic boardroom to developing a customized instructional system for the Dental Lab, decisions were made collaboratively with the people who would ultimately support and use the technology. That relationship has been built over two decades.
ClarkPowell’s first major project with Mitchell Community College was an auditorium AV installation approximately 20 years ago. The college appreciated the quality of the work, and the partnership continued.
Today, ClarkPowell remains the trusted AV partner for Mitchell Community College, helping the college create spaces that combine reliability, ease-of-use, and thoughtful design.
