ClarkPowell partnered with the City of Statesville to design a new AV system to meet the specific needs of the client. Statesville City Hall was built in 1892 and has some specific installation requirements due to the care needed to protect the historical integrity of the building.
When the pandemic hit, the city was faced with the challenge of how to broadcast to the public who were no longer able to attend their meetings in person. They wanted the ability to incorporate Zoom and Teams into their live broadcast.

The AV installation included a Sony 7000 Lumen Laser Projector that has excellent picture quality and uses a powerful pattern-matching database to optimize lower resolution images, enhancing clarity without increasing digital picture noise. Our team provided the expertise to make the calculations for a custom lens which was required because of the throw distance and size of the screen in the city council chambers.
Four Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) Sony Cameras with serial digital interface (SDI) output were installed that capture every point of view of the chambers with excellent 4K picture quality. Efficient IP-based live production that is augmented with support for Network Device Interface (NDI) allows for flexible configuration with other networked NDI-enabled devices. Sony provides innovative video solutions for mission-critical applications in government environments.
The Shure audio distribution system includes a speaker base and microphone so that each council member has their own speaker so they can hear each other clearly and also avoid problematic audio issues in such a large and lively room. The digital discussion system has voting capabilities and enables up to 250 meeting participants to hear each other clearly, across the room or across the city. It operates as a stand-alone discussion system or connects to external AV equipment or videoconferencing system.
A Crestron DigitalMedia Presentation System (DMPS) with 2 touch panels was chosen for the control room and chambers. This DMPS is a complete presentation control and signal routing solution that integrates the control system, multimedia matrix switcher, mic mixer, audio DSP, amplifier, and DigitalMedia distribution center all into a single 3-space rackmount package. It affords substantial signal routing flexibility and high-performance signal processing without the need for separate components.
