Durham Academy
Durham Academy embraces technology as well as valuing innovation and creativity. To achieve this objective they have chosen to invest in audio visual solutions that deliver dynamic presentations to inspire students and augment their learning experience.
ClarkPowell has been partnering with Durham Academy for 15 years and recently designed and installed the four auditorium systems. All of the auditoriums are multi-purpose spaces designed to enhance learning and the arts while offering state-of-the-art assembly, meeting and presentation spaces.

Smith Hall (above) is a two-story commons space that hosts presentations, meetings for entire grade levels and informal student-teacher interactions.
The Performing Arts Center (above) is located at Horton Hall. The heart of the campus, it features adaptable configurations to be able to host live performances, rehearsals, student assemblies and community events.
The Kenan Auditorium (above) regularly hosts live theatre and music events located at the upper school. The Brumley Performing Arts Building (below) is the main auditorium for the Lower School and hosts assemblies, class meetings, parent education events, guest speakers, and student performances.
The Arts & World Languages Center (below) is soundproofed rehearsal and art studios for band, chorus and theatre support experiential learning. A mix of larger classrooms and smaller seminar space provides flexibility for group work and discussion-based classes.
ClarkPowell installed 4 Christie D20 HDHS laser projectors across the campus. The school is pleased with the image quality and performance of the Christie projectors and the exceptional brightness and clarity of presentations delivered in both artificial bright and low ambient light conditions. A QSC sound system and Shure wireless microphones were installed in the auditoriums with Draper screens.
"We have worked with ClarkPowell for 15 years on our school’s AV needs and they have always provided us with great service and support. From interactive whiteboards to video conferencing and auditorium projection systems, the ClarkPowell team has done it all for us. Each job often comes with unique use requirements, so the team at ClarkPowell goes above and beyond to understand exactly what we are looking for. They design and install AV systems that are simple for our end users to operate and cost-effective while still maintaining a very high level of quality.
We are particularly pleased with the systems ClarkPowell has installed for us in our large auditorium meeting spaces that use Christie laser projectors. We need projection systems in these spaces that are very bright and display colors and text in very fine detail. In addition, the equipment needs to be very reliable and simple for our teachers and students to use for presentations, class meetings, and performances."
