CASE STUDY
University of North Carolina, School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, NC
"Our team at UNC was soliciting bids for a very high-profile project for the UNC Dept. of Surgery. This project had a lot riding on its successful outcome as it was to be the central location for UNC’s surgeons to gather and collaborate with their peers. This new education and collaboration center is also going to be connected directly, via Audio/Video-over-IP to the new UNC Surgical Tower operating rooms that are currently in process of being built. This functionality will give the surgeons at UNC the ability to not only see cameras, telemetry, and all other aspects of these 24 state-of-the-art operating rooms remotely from this new space, it will create tremendous teaching opportunities! So we had a lot riding on it!
ClarkPowell won the state bid for this project and since I have never worked directly with ClarkPowell, I immediately started to do my homework and research the company. Several emails and phone calls later to other industry professionals and schools that have used ClarkPowell, I felt UNC School of Medicine was in very capable hands.
Having led AV installation teams for close to a decade, I have a very critical eye for this line of work and will not hesitate to call out shoddy work and/or cutting corners. This was definitely not the case with the ClarkPowell team assigned to this project. While they were an absolute pleasure to work with, their attention to detail was great! Clean, neat and professional ALL THE WAY! And I am sure they will attest that I thoroughly scrutinized their work!
Issues come up as they do in any project/installation and how the integrator deals with these issues goes a long way in how I utilize them on future projects. When I brought specific issues to ClarkPowell’s attention, not only did they remedy them immediately, there was never any discussion as to whose fault or oversight this was, they just made it right.
Customer service is definitely a strong part of their focus as a team. From account management (Randy Lane) to their billing department (Joanne Nall), and all the moving pieces in between, the company as a whole was very easy to work with.
There were many delays with this project, some due to COVID and some fell on the shoulders of the general contractor, and ClarkPowell took them all in stride. Adjusting their workforce to accommodate the changing schedule and project timeline, they never missed a beat.
I am extremely happy with the outcome of this project. While this was our first time working with ClarkPowell, I know it will not be our last. From their talented installers to their very capable design engineer (Steve Woodard) and project manager (Ryan Inkrott), never did we feel disconnected from any aspect of this project.
I also want to give kudos to their service and support guys, Kenny Burwell and Brian Koopman. We had a few issues post installation with some of our products and these two gentlemen were fantastic at tracking the issues down and helping resolve them with the manufacturer! They came back week after week until things were right, and I admire that! All too often companies are in this for the wrong reasons… but ClarkPowell definitely has their priorities in order! They focused on our overall satisfaction and building up a solid relationship with the UNC School of Medicine. I highly recommend this team for any projects you may have in the pipeline!"
