The hybrid future in higher education

When the pandemic struck, and in the following year, higher education found itself trying to tackle a rapid transition to remote learning with solutions to give students access to new educational technology.

College students now have an expectation to continue to use aspects of remote learning that they have found helpful during the pandemic. Students find it valuable to have the flexible, hybrid models of online learning and to have access to recorded lectures.

Colleges believe the hybrid or blended model, will remain an important part of the future, post-pandemic curriculum. The hybrid model is the “new normal” and when implemented effectively, it can successfully create more flexible, engaging learning environments.

To be effective, however, colleges will need to provide online classes that offer the engagement of in-person classes. Educational facilities are now evaluating the best technologies and learning platforms to accommodate the needs of both on-campus and remote students.

The wrong use of technology can, instead of making remote students feel included, have the opposite effect and so it is imperative that a great deal of thought goes into the design process.
